Solution Focused Brief Hypnotherapy?

SFBT, solution focused brief therapy is the model of therapy I follow mostly as it is what I am trained in and am competent to use. It does however utilise some principles of CBT, NLP and the humanistic approach to psychology.

I use SFBT because it proves very effective. It works by utilizing the client’s own strengths and resources to move them forward. It is used to treat a wide range of ailments including all anxiety based problems, depression, anger, OCD’s, phobia’s post traumatic stress disorders, pain management and weight control to name a few.

It is simple and uncomplicated the clients are encouraged to focus on positive thinking to effect positive feelings and emotions and we give clients a way to use their own creativeness by giving positive suggestions and ideas to their subconscious minds during trance work which enables them to find the solutions to their problems and improves all aspects of their lives. It is brief and cost effective and focuses on the positive. Goals are set and the client finds ways to achieve them.

A large part of therapy is creating a positive rapport between therapist and client which allows for a relaxed, trusting, positive interaction. A good therapeutic alliance will lead to successful therapy.

SBFT is solution focused, itt focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem that made them to seek help. The aim is to move forward, not wallowing in the cause of the problem or the past. It is brief so results are obtained within a short time span. We give suggestions and ideas to the client through trance but emphasis is put on encouraging the client to seek out their own solutions through their own creativity and come up with answers for themselves. We use techniques that utilise positive approaches and enable the client to set goals to aim for, understanding that a small change leads to bigger changes and change is inevitable and constant.

Some of the techniques used in SBFT include;

Scaling – monitoring the clients emotional progress throughout treatment

The Miracle Question – giving the client a goal and focus

Trance – induction, deepener, suggestions and metaphors, helping the subconscious move towards the client’s goal

Visualisation, a strong suggestive technique, other suggestions and ideas, metaphors as an analogy and post hypnotic suggestions.

I hope you now have a better insight to the forward moving SFBT hypnotherapy way of working. Thanks for reading.
